MEDLIN Johnny R
From: JerryBlakely @cs.com
Sent: Monday, November 27, 2006 7:58 AM
To: MEDLIN Johnny R
Cc: HOSTICK Robin A; freda @efn.org
Subject: Hendricks Park Entry Signs
Johnny,
The main topic for our meeting on Thursday will be new entry signs for Hendricks Park. The new signs were in
the master design that we did several years ago. I wanted to get them installed for the Centennial year as a gift to
the park, but we have not been able to get it all together.
We got the project started, but are short of funding to complete it. The plan is for signs at all three entrances, with
stone columns at the Summit Ave. main entrance and wood posts at the other two. The stone columns will match
those at the shelter and Moon Terrace. Robin has renderings of the designs.
Now that we have a better idea about total cost, we need to raise more funds than I expected. The carved wood
signs cost $6,500, posts and installation $1,500 to $2,500, and stone work $5,000. This adds up to $13,000 to
$14,000.
This is a project that we would like to do on a cost sharing basis with POS. We have already purchased the wood
signs. I supplied $5000 and FoHP donated $1500. My proposal is that POS pay for the stone work. I will cover
the cost of posts and installation via donation to FoHP. POS will need to supply some labor for the project. Robin
has said the city has a truck with large auger that can drill holes, park staff will need to do traffic control, etc.
I hope you will see the value in this project and share the cost with us so we can make the entrances to the city's
first park more attractive and inviting.
I have invited Fred Austin to attend the Thursday meeting, as he is FoHP's money person.
Jerry
11/30/2006
