Mr. Richardson said that Laurie Mullen had asked him to let the CPC know the City would review the
management plan to ensure its goals were being met.
Mr. Richardson said the Stream Team had a tree planting project planned for February 9. Ms. Behm
asked that the CPC receive notice close to the event.
Ms. Behm commended the new trees and suggested the Habitat Subcommittee would be interested in
seeing more understory plants. She expressed interest in an understory planting. Mr. Richardson
identified the location of the planting on the aerial photograph. He referred the CPC to Ms. Mullen for
more information.
Ms. Mello expressed interest in knowing more about the work occurring on Pre's Trail in the vicinity of
the hazelnut orchard.
Mr. Richardson circulated updated copies of the new Talking Stones brochure. He indicated, in response
to a comment from Mr. Sonnichsen, that the drawing on the front of the brochure could be replaced by
Ms. Applegate's drawing as the brochure had not yet been printed.
Ms. Brand wanted the maintenance supervisor from each area to come talk to the CPC about what was
planned for the year so the CPC knew overall "what the plan was" and what was and was not funded.
Other members concurred. Ms. French said she could follow up. She said the staff liaisons were
intended to provide that information to the CPC so she questioned if it constituted a duplication of effort.
Mr. Ernst suggested that Ms. French and Mr. Richardson could provide an update in the future as to the
overall subject.
Ms. Brand wanted to get to "know some of the faces" of the people who "did the work on the ground,"
not the "entry- level" people, but the supervisors. Mr. Richardson said that Ms. French was very involved
in such things at Willamalane and Ms. Mullin might be appropriate contact at Eugene.
Responding to questions from Mr. Biggs and Ms. Mello, Mr. Richardson described the lighting to be
installed on the bridges. He emphasized that lighting would be much improved over current conditions
with sturdier poles and fixtures allowing down lighting only, and said he would provide the subcommittee
with more details.
9. Old Business
Mr. Ernst solicited items.
Mr. Biggs asked for an update on the erosion near the bridge on the canal near the dog park. Mr.
Richardson said there was no project planned in the next six months. Mr. Biggs asked if it would be
possible to do a plan prior to the Trials. Mr. Richardson said there were many problems with the area and
it was difficult to get anything to grow. CPC members discussed the proximity of the dog park and the
contribution of dogs to the problem, which confirmed the need for signage regarding dogs off leash.
MINUTES--Citizen Planning Subcommittee of the January 10, 2008 Page 6
Whilamut Natural Area
