Mr. Sonnichsen said the number 15 was important to the Kalapuya tribe because <br />multiples of five were of special significance to them. <br />Ms. Jones said she and Ms. Behm had spent an afternoon cutting grass and cleaning the Talking Stones <br />before the Olympic Trials. <br />7. Staff Reports <br />a. Eugene Parks and Open Space (POS) <br />Mr. Richardson reported that all of the sign graphics were completed and handed off to the production <br />company. He said the company did not deliver the signs on the agreed delivery date, and installation of <br />them was delayed until after the Olympic Trials. The signs included the Pre's Trail sign, a large Alton <br />Baker sign, and riverbank path loop signs. <br />Mr. Sonnichsen said the Talking Stones signs were up, as was the sign by the north end of the Autzen <br />footbridge. He commented that the signs and maps looked great. <br />Mr. Richardson updated the committee on other projects including the four habitat signs, the guardrail <br />installation on the Autzen footbridge, and the Autzen path lighting project. <br />Mr. Richardson said the Interstate 5 bridge project was still in negotiations regarding parkland. He <br />explained that the Parks and Open Space Division (POS) was negotiating with ODOT to obtain <br />approximately 30 acres of land formerly designated for the West Eugene Parkway project. <br />Mr. Richardson referred to a map showing where North Walnut Road in Alton Baker Park (ABP) was <br />encroaching on three private residences. He related that POS was in negotiations with them to adjust <br />property lines and stated that he believed the issue would clear up in the next few months. <br />Continuing, Mr. Richardson state that the City had been conducting pedestrian and bicycle counts of <br />some of the path systems. He said to the purpose was to compare current data to data from a decade ago <br />which could lead to future funding opportunities. <br />Mr. Richardson announced Breakfast at the Bridges, an event scheduled for the last Friday in July for <br />people who walk or commute by bike. <br />On volunteer work, Mr. Richardson reported that approximately 170 people from Church of Jesus Christ <br />of the Latter -Day Saints had done work all over the city, including the work that Mr. Sonnichsen reported <br />on. He said the church planned to make this an annual event. He also noted that the natural resource <br />staff continued to water trees and shrubs and to remove invasive plants. <br />Mr. Richardson reported that the remaining hammer throw facilities were removed.
