Dept. r;;
22 West 7TH , Eugene Or. 97405 1- 47:X Ior 1, P ALLrt Elm
Dear Dove & Renee
As per your request, I hove performed an evoluation of the existing lighting system of the
Shasta Athletic Fields, as well as developed some optional opprooches to consider os you
move forword with upgrading the facility.
The existing system involves 90, 1000 watt metol halide fixtures (30 per field). The fixtures
are mounted on wood crossarm supports, attached to wood poles approximately 45' above
ground. My projected light level performance for this system is an initiol average footcondle
(FC) of 20FC for the infield, and 15[C for the outfield. Because of crossorm failure, pole
twisting, and lamp performance depreciotion; the current light level at the Shasta fields is
14FC average for the infields, and 9FC average for the outfields.
Accepted standords for recreational softball set by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES)
exceed the current situation at the Shasta facility considerably. The IES standards ore set at
30FC for the infield and 20FC for the outfield. These light level standards are driven by two
issues: one, ployobility; and two, liability. At present the Americon Softball Ass. (ASA), the
United States Slowpitch Softball Ass. (USSSA) and Little League require these some standards
as a minimum level strictly for liability reasons.
OPTIONS TO CONSIDER:
Because the existing fixtures ore 1000 watts, and are attached to wood crossorms thot are in
dire need of replacement; the utilization of these fixtures to upgrade the lighting would cost
more than a new lighting system. Addtional fixtures (6 to 8 per field) would need to be
purchased, and all the fixtures would need to be attached to newly fabricated steel crossorm
supports. Finally, the system would need to be redesigned by a outside engineering
consultant. Listed below are two Musco optional approaches that will meet the lighting needs
of your facility:
SC -2 Luminore Assemblies mounted on the existing poles: 26, 1500 watt fixtures
pert€ ; producing a maintained overage FC of 30/20. Equipment cost per field would
/b
be between $14,300 and $15,600; while installation would be between $5,000 and -
U 9 A7,000.
X: TOTAL COST $19,300 TO $22,600 per field
Independent Representative for:
0000
Official Official Lighting f TIUSCO
Consultant to the U.S.
Olympic Committee LIGHTING, INC.
36USC380
