The City had $10,000 to put back into the park. The Scobert Garden Party was held
September 6th. and the new park sign was installed this past week on thursday, January the 22nd. The
new play equipment is still in the planning stage, with John Etter and his staff having the lead. The
neighborhood group that was meeting on the park has not met since the week before the garden party! A
representative of the group was to contact John Etter to work on the design. This has not been done to
date. The $9,100 for the play equipment is still available. The parks maintenance section has had the
lighting level increased in the park, extended the back field fence to protect that shrub area and done some
minor pruning to help with the visibility into the park Two other small projects remain to be done by the
City 1) remove the basalt column in the southeast shrub bed and 2) install a small bulletin board with a
map of the area and the social service providers available. A long term project was to look at the possible
redesign of the park that might include a wrought iron fence or some other type of barrier to keep people
out of the various shrub beds. The long range project needs to have a representative group of the
neighborhood work with the City on making any changes! The thought of the group at the last meeting
was to wait to see what effect these other changes would have on the use of the park. I am retiring from
the City on February 6th. In my absence Tim Rhay will have any maintenance resposibilities concerning
Scobert Gardens. John Etter will be in charge of park design. I think that she sees a need
for some follow -up communication with the original board(and interested parties ?). As you may be aware
of, there is an informal group of immediate neighbors of the park, along 4th Ave., that have been meeting.
believe that one of their members includes, James Reed, a former Advisory Board member. I believe that
he has been communicating with Dick Morgan regarding playground remodeling issues.
Rich
From: BLACK Timothy R
To: HAMMITT Bob
Cc: BREMER Richard B
Subject: Scobert Park
Date: Tuesday, January 27, 1998 4:15PM
At this week's meeting of the Whiteaker Public Safety Station
Neighborhood Advidory Board, folks asked about the status of
Scobert projects and funds. I wasn't involved when this
started, so I don't know all the history -- I'm just passing
along their questions:
-- What is the status of the park design?
-- What is the status of the money ($10,000) that was designated for Scobert?
-- Who is currently in charge of this project?
I'd like to report back to them at the next meeting, so any
info. you can pass along would be helpful. They may also
appreciated having someone come to give them an update. I
think the next meeting is Monday, February 23, 4 -5:30.
Thanks.
Page 1
