EUGENE° Mayor's Office
`' Ruth Bascom
City of Eugene
777 Pearl Street, Room 105
Eugene, Oregon 97401 -2793
(503) 687 -5010
(503) 465 -2665 TDD
(503) 687 -5414 FAX
April 15, 1994 •
To: Councilor Shawn Boles
and Neighborhood leaders Mary Bensten, Doug Card, Wes Bigelow
From: Ruth Bascom
Re: Moving Child Care, Inc. from its present location in Skinner's Butte Park to a
desirable location on Thomason Lane.
Child Care Inc. is likely the best facility in Eugene providing sliding scale child care of
unusually high quality in an area of the city where the need is particularly great.
Two of its directors came to me to request help in their wished -for move to a desirable
and accessible location on Thomason Lane, a small parcel (2 1/2 lots), just off River
Road by the paved parking lot next to the new soccer field at the west end of Maurie
Jacobs Park. This parcel is owned by the City, is not useful for further park
develpment, but does have a monetary value for which the city parkland budget would
need reimbursement. Some of the Lincoln School money could provide that
reimbursement.
My recollection (though perhaps faulty after these years) from serving on the Lincoln
School sub - committee that examined ways to provide child care leads me to believe
that expiditing Child Care Inc.'s move meets the goals of that original sub - committee.
Councilor Shawn Boles has expressed interest in this Child Care Inc. proposal, also,
and I defer to him in finding ways to work with you to further this goal.
I've appreciated the work of all three of you in making our city a humane place for its
citizens and in strengthening our neighborhood organizations.
Sincerely,
Ruth Bascom
cc: Janet Kerans, Director, Child Care Inc.
