Equipment Policy Session
Speaker Tip Sheet
There are several reasons we are asking supervisors to conduct the info
sessions on the revised equipment policy.
• This policy is important enough that we don't want to just send it by
email and hope people read ft.
• Without some discussion, employees may come up with questions or
interpretations that never get discussed. It is important for there to be
consistency and alignment on how this policy is implemented.
• There have been a few significant changes and we want to be sure
that all employees have the chance to hear about these and ask
questions.
Key points in talking about the new policy:
• The HR Board, with consultation from work units around the organization,
Information Services, HR, our Unions, and the Executives drafted and
adopted the following policy.
• With technology changing at such a rapid pace, we continue to attempt to
keep our policies aligned with those changes. This revision is the result of
our latest discussions on the topic of "City equipment use."
• It is important that all employees understand how to manage their work
time within the framework of this policy, so this is a great opportunity to
ask questions.
• There has actually been some expansion of the policy around personal
use on paid breaks. We'II talk about that more, but this came from the
consideration that we understand how challenging it is for all employees to
manage work and personal time issues. It is critical that employees
understand this framework so that everyone is able to respect the
framework of the policy correctly.
• Remember to be clear on your expectations around this policy. State the
expectation clearly and supportively, assuming everyone is going to follow
it.
Framework for session:
