810 8 6 Please deliver this comment to Mr. Johnson:
We need to take a look at the hierarchical structure of the way city divisions /departments /offices
are set up. It is true that we, as an organization, are a bureaucracy. This needs to change. There is
too little employee involvement — respect in the workplace, and too many rules attached to making
even the smallest decisions / changes — it takes involving too many people out of the scope of the
area which needs change, and not involving enough of those who have direct experience /
knowledge. We need an environment which is open and accepting of new_ways and new ideas, not
doing things the same just because "they've always been done that way." We're out of touch with
way our community and the business world have been changing. Let's move forward to bridge the
gap.
826 8 6 I've always been treated fairly in the organization and my concems and needs have been heard. I
feel respected and close with my work family.
811 8 6 Please don't let this become a futile exercise.
814 8 6 I think one of the best aspects of my job is the flex -time. I think the City should allow more of this
— also tele- commuting and job sharing.
831 8 6 Other than police and fire, I feel the city organization does not adequately recognize (monetarily or
otherwise) the contribution that is made by front -line employees (i.e. those that interact with the
public in problem solving situation; situations that are highly charged and stressful) Often, it
would be nice to see a change is this area...(combat pay perhaps ?)
651 8 6 Too much money is being spent to remodel our office at 1902 Roosevelt. Existing office is
relatively new and would really only need minor changes to suit the needs of additional staff at
this location. I hate to see the tax payers' money being spent this way.
226 8 7 I think that the city's "diversity" policy needs to embrace all including all abilities /disabilities, all
races, all religious affiliations, and home life orientations. All of our policies should treat each
employee equally (healthcare benefits, family leave...etc.) Until these things happen are our
"diversity policy" is integrated fully into the city policies there are going to be disagreements
regarding these issues between employees and management. Further, question #69 is a horrible
way for the city to get it's quota information. We are all differently abled and on some of us it is
just more obvious.
837 8 7 The city lacks leadership /management in many decision making positions...hence decisions are not
made or are not timely. Too many meetings, consultants used...again to alleviate anyone from
having to make a decision. ISD is a good example, with good people with good skills leaving, rifts
developing between ISD and RIS, and between ISD and other departments. Mid -to -long term
effects will be negative and noticeable.
780 8 7 What is the real purpose of this survey?
234 8 7 Overall the city is a good place to work, but line employee's such as we have in our dept. which
perform to a high standard day in and day out need to know their worth to the city. The city can do
that by bringing those personnel that are underpaid up to scale. The city wages are more so a
reflection of a generic status or pay scale, not taking into account the diversity of divisions and
work sections within the organization. The city needs to get up to speed in that respect. We have
got great people, treat them right.
231 8 7 attached Mallard Fillmore cartoon:
And so, while the jury is still out on how the dinosaurs became extinct, many contemporary
scholars now blame...
...their lack of respect for diversity..
