DRAFT
• Plant community structure: using 5 year quantitative monitoring schedule.
• total vegetative cover
• total native species cover
• total introduced species cover
• dominant species cover
• There is a Fender's Blue butterfly population for which no time has been budgeted.
• Mapping and reporting.
Habitat Maintenance:
Long term maintenance will focus on maintaining high quality site conditions as defined in the
Eugene City Code
• Maintaining site hydrology (flow, depth, location) through channel management and removal
of woody species.
• Supporting rare plant & insect species through removal of woody species, reseeding and
exotic removal.
• Removal of invasive exotic plant species by hand crew and burning.
• Prevention of new invasive infestation by controlling runoff from adjacent sites.
• Controlling tree expansion through removal and chemical treatment of stumps and mow
dense shrubs along south property line.
• Replanting areas with native plant species through reseeding.
General Maintenance
General maintenance at the Greenhill preserve will concentrate on maintenance of infrastructure,
working with the public, the preserve office and operations. There is presently little visitor
pressure except occasional hunters. A small unpaved road, parking lot and about 500 feet of
fence - is at the northeast corner. In addition a significant trail is planned connecting the parking
lot to the ODOT site. A channel created to protect the site from water -borne invasive plant seeds
has been constructed and must be maintained. (If this source is removed, costs of maintaining
the channel may be deleted.) Patrolling for hunters and other activities not permitted on the
preserve, maintenance of the trail and trailhead, some materials for visitors, maintaining and
replacing equipment are some of the additional tasks on this preserve.
Site Specific Activities - STEWART
Background -
The Stewart Complex has been completed and no additional restoration activities are expected.
There are four water features including Grimes Pond, Stewart Pond, Teal Slough, No Name
Pond plus the pond in the East Stewart property. Although the project is complete, there are
significant populations of invasive species in the wetlands area for which continued control
activities are needed. The cover of introduced species is moderate to high in the original Stewart
Pond and expanded emergent wetland. But the effort to expand the existing riparian woodland
along the edge of Teal Slough is progressing well. The upland at the Stewart Preserve is oak and
ash woodland. There are no rare plants.
05/08/01 6
