DRAFT
• Plant community structure (dominant spp., native v. non, etc.) using five year monitoring
schedule. Five year schedule is assumed to use three permanent macro plots totaling 4,442
square meters of coverage.
• Mapping and reporting.
Habitat Maintenance
Long term maintenance will focus on maintaining high quality site conditions as defined in the
Eugene City Code
• Maintaining site hydrology (flow, depth, location) through channel management and removal
of woody species.
• Supporting rare plant species through removal of woody species, reseeding and exotic
removal.
• Removal of invasive exotic plant species through hand removal, weed - eating, burning and
mowing.
General Maintenance
Long -term maintenance will concentrate on repair and replacement of infrastructure, working
with the public, the preserve office and operations. Only about 200 feet of fence is included in
this extensive site. There are two boardwalks, one in the trail and another as an overlook at
Balboa. Balboa trails are gravel and pressure treated timber. The Oxbow East maintenance road
is simply cleared of vegetation. There is a 72 foot culvert at Oxbow East , a four foot culvert at
Balboa, and several culverts at Beaver Run. There are also 3 water control units at Beaver Run.
The boardwalk at Balboa has two interpretive signs.
Site Specific Activities - NORTH GREENHILL ASH GROVE UNIT
Background
The North Greenhill Ash Grove unit is at the base and side of Oak Hill and fronts on Greenhill
Road on the east side. It is a new unit where restoration is being actively pursued. Runoff from
Oak Hill provides the majority of water to the wetland. The wetlands cover virtually the entire
site except the hillside. An additional wetland preserve may be established by ODOT to the south
of the property and still other wetlands are being purchased for conservation across Green Hill
road to the east. There is a small commercial development to the north with its parking lot,
otherwise the property is in an undeveloped area. It is also outside the City's growth boundary.
The ash grove at the southeast corner of the site harbors four rare species.
Biotic Survey
Long term monitoring will focus on determining changes in the:
• Wetland hydrology using aerials and annual hydrologist review.
• Area and percent cover of rare plants species (4 rare spp. in ash grove area) using a five year
quantitative monitoring schedule.
• Area and percent cover of invasive exotic plant species using 4 qualitative surveys a year and
five year quantitative monitoring schedule.
• Vascular plant list for the area using five year quantitative monitoring schedule.
05/08/01 5
