PUBLIC WORKS - MAINTENANCE DIVISION
STORMWATER REHABILITATION - CIP
PROJECT REQUEST LIST
March 1997
Following is a list of rehabilitation projects in order of relative priority and current status:
1. Location: Northeast corner of intersection at 19th Ave. and Emerald St.
Nature of Problem: Poor street drainage and constricted flow in storm sewer. Catch
basins in street clogging. Owners of the apartment building filed a claim against the
City several years ago, claiming that a public catch basin grate at the driveway apron
of the flooded parking area was clogged with leaves. City response was that the
drainage system in the parking garage malfunctioned (the basement sump pump was
not operating at the time of the flooding) and damage was not due to the City system.
However, some deficiencies were found in the public system as a result of investiga-
tion of the claim. Unlike what is shown on the grid map, water drains to catch basin
#57211 on 19th Ave. in front of the parking garage. It then runs into mh #57444
(under the sidewalk), then west through an 8" pipe to mh #57443 (which is a 24" dia.
non - standard mh, also under the sidewalk), then through a 10" pipe at an oblique,
southwesterly angle to mh #57464 in the 18" main on Emerald, where it is entering
the flowline at an angle against the flow of the 18" main. From this point it flows
north to mh #57463, which is a non - standard 24" dia. manhole with an 8" sanitary
carry through.
Recommended Solution: Correct restrictions to the system in this intersection by
reconfiguration and/or upsizing necessary to ensure adequate system capacity.
Status: New Project 3/97
2. Location: Goodpasture Island Rd. and Valley River Drive
Nature of Problem: Two bubbler catch basins ( #62367 and 62444) discharge the
parking lot drainage from the Executive Parkway Suites onto Goodpasture Island
Road, south of Valley River Drive. From this point there is no positive drainage or a
nearby public structure. As a result, large puddles occur in the driving lane of
Goodpasture Island Road during heavy rainfall events, creating the need to set out
"high water" signs.
Recommended Solution: By means of a permit of entry, easement, or maintenance
agreement with Valley River Center, construct a system which connects the bubblers
to the existing private system; or tie the bubblers into the public system to the north at
97rehab.de 3/97 bne 1
