heavy rainfall events. This intersection drains a sizable light industrial area west of
Bertelsen Rd. from both 13th Ave. And Interior St. The area is low -lying and
adjacent to wetlands associated with the Willow Creek basin. The only storm -
water structures draining this area are two curb inlets ( #54457 and 54523) near the
cul -de -sac at the north end of Interior. These inlets drain into a 36" pipe, which
runs west to the 48" pipe that runs north to Amazon Creek. In heavy rainfall
events, the piped system surcharges and the high ground water causes sheet flow off
of the properties and onto the street. The combined effects create considerable
flooding at times. Engineering records dating back to the time of construction of
these streets indicate that the street surface level may lie below the HGL.
Recommended Solution: Have Engineering analyze this system as a whole and
design and construct corrective measures to increase capacity.
Status: In July1997, Maintenance installed two catch basins in the intersection and
one catch basin along the south side of 13th Ave. and connected to the existing 42"
pipe primarily as a measure to facilitate drainage following a major storm event,
although this probably won't help during surcharge conditions. WRT is including
this area in the Basin Study.
9
97rchAbsis II /97bne
