Example: 36" pipe originating at grated manhole behind 384 Delwood ( #50138)
reverts to a 24" pipe segment at Delwood ( #50136 to 50135), then back to 36" pipe
until outletting to open drainage just north of W 37th Ave. ( #50115). It then
reenters 24" pipe behind W 35th Pl. ( #50107), outlets to open drainage at Frederick
( #51204), then reenters 33" pipe west of Olive ( #51239) that is shortly restricted to
a 27" segment along W 34th Ave. ( #51271 to 51285). Pipe system alternates
between 30" and 36" segments along E 33rd Ave. until it outlets to the Amazon.
The area cited in the above example, the mid and lower section of this drainage
complex, appears to harbor the potential for creating surcharging and /or localized
flooding conditions at the various diameter restrictions and inlet choke points as
additional flows are introduced.to the system from upstream development.
Recommended Solution: Conduct flow analysis of entire system based on the
projected full development of the drainage basin. Study feasibility of reconstruct-
ing sections and /or pipe segments of the existing system that do not meet design
standards necessary to adequately service flows based on full basin development.
Acquire necessary easement from new development to allow maintenance access to
the grated manhole inlet to the piped system behind 384 Delwood St. ( #50138).
Also, enclose the short section of open drainage to pipe between 36" outlet just
north of W 37th Ave. ( #50115) and inlet to 24" pipe leading to Frederick St.
( #50107) to eliminate potential maintenance problems associated with this inlet.
Reconstruct under -sized system components as appropriate.
Status: Engineering has begun research for project design. Because of the scope of
this project, Engineering recommends the services of a consultant.
15. Location: Open ditch along west side of Trainsong Park.
Nature of Problem: Open drainage ditch from Lassen St. to the north edge of
Trainsong Park has a history of use as an illegal dumping site for old appliances,
tires, animal carcasses, household garbage, and drug paraphernalia resulting in
citizen complaints /requests for City maintenance action.
Recommended Solution: Enclose ditch to pipe from beginning of ditch at Lassen
St. to the north edge of Trainsong Park. If system is to connect with existing or
proposed systems to the west, include piped crossing under Hwy 99 with the
impending reconstruction project.
Status: Preliminary design options established. Project has not been pursued due to
cost /benefit. Easement required.
16. Location: 13th Ave. and Interior St.
Nature of Problem: Flooding of entire intersection and adjoining properties during
,•r„i„, , h. 8
