•
CITY OF EUGENE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS 1995
There is also a statistically higher proportion of those who are aware of ways in which the
City manages stormwater from the following demographic groups:
• those who are aware of the City's Stormwater Management Plan,
• those who have changed their behavior in the past two years out of regard for
water quality,
• and those who participated in the Benchmark study.
Those who indicated they are aware of ways in which the City manages stormwater were
asked to describe those activities. The following two charts summarize the top mentions.
Ways in Which the City Manages Stormwater for Water Quality (Base: 68)
It goes to water treatment plant 17%
Stenciling on storm drains 16%
Charge fees based on impervious surface 16%
They have storm drains for run off 12%
They test the water 9%
Ways in Which the City Manages Stormwater for Flood Control and Drainage Services
(Base: 90)
They have dams 24%
The Amazon system 20%
They have a storm sewer system 7%
Fern Ridge 6%
Similar to the Benchmark data, you can be 99% sure that renters and multiple dwelling
households are more likely to say that they are not aware of ways in which the City man-
ages stormwater. Additional education efforts may be needed to increase the awareness,
and motivation, of these two groups.
It is interesting to note that while a significantly higher percent of Benchmark respondents
indicate they are aware of ways in which the City manages stormwater for water quality
compared to new respondents (24% vs 14 %); past and new respondents are equally aware
of ways in which the City manages stormwater for flood control and drainage services (23%
vs 22 %). A higher Chi- square value indicates awareness of how stormwater is managed is
related to some degree by the respondent's awareness of the Stormwater Management Plan.
scudder &associates /research Page 5
