to schedule external work requests as opposed to working on special projects, main- <br /> tenance, etc. Using a 12 month calendar, we arrive at an approximation of the number <br /> of monthly hours devoted to tasks and activities other than normal treework (Appendix <br /> X), assuming the current staffing level. This is subtracted from the total available <br /> manhours to yield the estimated hours available for scheduling actual treework. This <br /> averages about 420 hours /month. <br /> Strategy <br /> The Section prepared a 12 month workplanning calendar. The calendar will be used to <br /> allocate blocks of time to tasks performed in the past which are anticipated to con- <br /> tinue. Routine tree care will be scheduled with these commitments in mind. Special <br /> projects /assignments, if not emergencies, will be scheduled to make most efficient use of <br /> personnel. The calendar will be updated on a weekly basis to include additional <br /> information as it becomes known. The calendar will also be used to track where time <br /> was actually spent. <br /> 2. Work Priorities <br /> In developing the workplan the group determined that a method of sorting requests on <br /> a basis other than "first -come, first - served" was needed. The Section has limited <br /> resources. to .devote to treework. Based on known activities, there are approximately <br /> 420 hours /month available for treework.
