At the Danebo school site the list showed 15 trees to be watered. Kyle called
me out to the school and, after seeing what was there I determined to remove
ten of the trees that were dead. The remaining five trees are currently on
our list. These are the only trees that have been removed by my crew at this
point. Our goal was to get the trees watered that needed it and spend the
time necessary later to remove the dead trees.
On July 14th, I received an E -mail from John Weber, requesting we pick up the
watering of trees at the Kiwanis site (John and I are unsure whether this is
the 7th Place site or the Carrow's site on the list). Also at 24th and
Fillmore, the site where the lad who ran the trees over, got caught and had to
replace the trees.
At this point I met with john Weber and Johnny Medlin on Friday, July 15th.
As a result of that meeting, I had Kyle work the weekend, picking up what had
not been done on the list we received from Jan. We had picked up some of the
sites, but I did not want to place the trees we already were taking care of at
risk by adding more than we could do. I had gone to personnel earlier in the
week looking for app's for an additional water truck driver and had one set up
for Monday morning. While that person did not work out, Kim Davis was able to
come on that Tuesday July 19th, having been released from her doctor. We now
have drivers that will provide watering for 60 hours per week. Scott Anstine
has been place on the water truck Wednesday and Thursday with Kim watering
Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday if necessary.
While Kyle was watering the Hwy 99 site of 130 trees on Saturday, July 16th, a
truck from Woodruff Nursery pulled up and asked him what he was doing. The
driver of the Woodruff truck told Kyle that Jan had made arrangements for them
to water the trees which is why they were there. Kyle pulled off at that time
and started working on the rest of the list.
I received a call from a Mrs. Jean Penfold, 485 -4662, who is the mother of the
lad who planted and was supposed to be caring for the trees on Fillmore North
of 24th. She stated her son, Mark, was supposed to be making sure the trees
were being watered. She said her son told her that he (Mark) was under the
impression Jan was going to provide him some means of watering the trees, a
truck or something. I told her that we had started watering them and would
continue until other arrangements are made, if necessary.
We have accepted all watering that has not been done yet this year and will
continue to take calls. I might suggest, that we get the list of all trees
planted by neighborwoods and /or volunteers so we can check them out and get
them on our list if they are not being watered by the property owner.
