• (Class IV) for a considerable time. During the transition period the Section will <br /> commit one crew to "catch -up" removal work. The other crew will handle outstanding <br /> requests for Class IV work as well as assisting on incoming high priority work. When- <br /> ever possible and practical, the oldest work requests will be completed first. <br /> This configuration will allow the Section to gradually catch -up and maintain the current <br /> workload. Should additional areas be added to the City through annexation the situa- <br /> tion will deteriorate. <br /> The cost of this proposal is approximately $31,000. Funding sources could include a <br /> General Fund baseline request or Gas Tax. (Note: The City of Springfield funds all <br /> street tree activity from their Gas Tax fund. In preliminary discussions between Fi- <br /> nance and the City Attorney it appears that Gas Tax could be used for work within the <br /> right -of -way. A request for an opinion is pending.) <br /> 2. Decrease Work Responsibilities <br /> If the decision is to maintain the current level of staffing within the Section, we believe <br /> consideration should be given to eliminating and /or reassigning some activities for which <br /> we are currently responsible.
