Lead Worker Park Spec. 3B 1 1
Aerial Lift Crew Ldr Park Spec. 3 1 2
Tree Trimmer Park Spec. 2B 2 2
Total 4 5
To utilize staff resources efficiently, it is important to have a Lead Worker/Inspector in
addition to two full crews. Currently, the 3B is allotted only one day a week to conduct
inspections and complete other administrative duties; i.e., purchasing, scheduling, etc.
In order for the crew to function smoothly, more time should be allocated to these
duties. The Leadworker will be available to backfill for crew absences but would be
primarily engaged in coordinating activities.
The section currently has two aerial lifts and two fully qualified operators capable of
leading a two person crew. If each operator were made a crew leader (PS 3) and
given a climbing qualified trimmer (PS 2B), the Section could fully utilize the equip-
ment and allow the Leadworker to concentrate on inspections and scheduling. At
present, with only four workers, any absence shuts down an entire crew.
Because there is an existing backlog of requests, we are unable to initiate the new
system without some phase -in. A sudden switch to the new system would mean engag-
ing in almost 100% removal work (Class III) to the exclusion of maintenance pruning
