METHOD OF SUPPORT <br /> 1. Trees shall be guyed or supported in an upright position with cable, wire <br /> or stakes according to accepted arboricultural standards (National Arborist <br /> Association, 1979 revised standards) and so fastened that they will not <br /> cause serious injury to the trees or endAhger public safety. <br /> PRUNING, TRIMMING AND REMOVAL <br /> 1. Severe surgical lowering of`the crown may be' allowed by special permission • <br /> of the City Forester, under special circumstances. <br /> 2. All trees shall be pruned to sufficient height- to allow free passage of <br /> pedestrian and vehicular traffic 71 feet over sidewalks and 11 feet over . <br /> streets except one way streets and main arterials which shall have a <br /> clearance of 14 feet over streets. <br /> 3. All cuts shall be made with a saw, or pruners. All such cuttings shall be <br /> made only at nodes or crotches, and follow accepted National Arborists <br /> Association Standards (1979). No spurs or climbers shall be used, on <br /> decidious trees. • <br /> 4. All dead limbs, cross limbs, and rubbing limbs shall be removed. <br /> 5. At the discretion of the City Forester, allow unds both old and new over <br /> 1 inch in diameter shall be treated with an asphalt base paint or other approved <br /> wound dressing. Modern research indicates this to be a useless practice but it <br /> is recognized that as a cosmetic procedure it can have a beneficial psychological <br /> effect on the general public. . <br /> 6. All tools used on a tree known to be infected with a contagious disease shall <br /> be disinfected immediately after each cut. <br /> 7. Whenever streets are to be blocked off in order to remove large limbs, the <br /> Police and Fire Departments shall be.notified of the location of the street <br /> to be blocked and the length of time it will be blocked.. <br /> 8. Suitable street and. sidewalk barriers and signs shall be used when pruning' <br /> a tree to protect the public from danger. Flashing barricades shall be placed on all barriers <br /> or obstructions remaining in the traveled portions of the highway after dark. <br /> Safety regulations shall adhere to American National Standards Institute <br /> Regulations ANSI CI -33, 1 -1972 or OSHA,,2072 Guide. <br /> 9. National Arborist Association Standards (1979) for pruning by Class I,II,III, <br /> shall be observed as designated by the City Forester at the time of issuance <br /> of any tree pruning permit. <br /> • <br /> • <br />
