PLANTING (cant.) <br /> 2. All trees shall have single straight trunks,' a well developed leader, and <br /> • tops and roots characteristic of the species, cultivars or variety. All <br /> plants must be free of insects, diseases, mechanical injuries and other <br /> objectionable features when planted. <br /> LOCATION <br /> 1. No tree shall be planted in tree lawn (area between curb and sidewalk) which <br /> are less than 4 feet wide, unless specific conditions warrant and then only <br /> by approval of the City Forester.. <br /> 2. Where the tree lawn is less than 4 feet wide, planting is recommended . to <br /> be on private property whenever there is room for such planting with the <br /> written consent of the owner. <br /> • <br /> 3. In sections where sidewalks have . not been laid, tree planting shall consider <br /> the probable location of any future laid sidewalk. <br /> 4. All trees planted within the tree lawn shall be set midway between the curb <br /> and the sidewalk, or in line with existing trees if variations exist and <br /> conditions warrant. They shall be planted at least 25 feet from the <br /> projected property line at a street intersection and a minimum of at least <br /> 30 feet apart, depending on species, cultivar, or variety. Trees shall be <br /> located at least 10 feet from any driveway or alley. •Minimum planting <br /> distance may be slightly modified at the discretion of the City Forester <br /> if existing driveway, hydrants,•poles, etc. warrant. <br /> • 5. Concrete cuts shall be A minimum 4 feet; square or 4 feet in diameter. <br /> • <br /> METHOD OF PLANTING. , • <br /> 1. Holes should be made sufficiently large to aocomodate the roots without <br /> crowding. • <br /> 2. In poorly drained soil, some means of artificial drainage should be provided. <br /> 3. Plants should be set at same depth as previously grown. • <br /> 4. Good soil, compost or other mixtures should be used around roots and in the <br /> backfill around the soil ball, unless an approved tree spade or other mechanical <br /> tree moving device is used which can accomplish the same end result. <br /> 5. National Arborist Association Revised Standards (1979) are to be followed unless <br /> otherwise directed by the City Forester. <br /> • <br />
