HAMMITT Bob
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
To: BURNS Roy L
Cc: HAMMITT Bob; ANDERSEN Chris F; CHILDS Jan W
Subject: UGB Tree Preservation Ordinance
Date: Tuesday, July 22, 1997 10:18AM
Hi Roy,
This message is just to give you a "heads -up" on an emerging issue.
Due to funding cutbacks approved by the City Council we are going to be moving toward discontinuing
administration and enforcement of the City's Tree Preservation Ordinance. Since we are reluctant to have
code on the books which we can't enforce, we currently are working with the City Attorney's office to
discuss what changes would be needed to our code to delete permitting and enforcement requirements on
private lands.
This brings up the issue of administration of the UGB Tree ordinance. While this has not been discussed
directly, I suspect there will be questions regarding our continuing administration of the County ordinance
when we are discontinuing our own. Since we have never finished the intergovernmental agreement on
the City providing enforcement this may be a moot issue.
I would be interested to hear your comment /concerns on this issue.
Thanks
Johnny
Page 1
