The City will establish or enhance the character of its streets through the use of trees in rights -of -way. <br /> 7. The City will adopt measures intended to ensure that new trees planted on public land and along street <br /> rights -of -way are of the highest quality, require low maintenance, and do not interfere with public safety. <br /> 8. The City will amend the Eugene Code to protect trees on public lands and street rights -of -way from the <br /> potential adverse impacts of construction- related activities. <br /> 10, Amend the Eugene Code to provide suitable space for trees to grow in new or re- constructed street <br /> rights -of -way to maximum extent practical. <br /> 13. The City will require an approved street tree plan in developments involving the creation of streets. Assure <br /> that the party obtaining approval provides for planting the street trees, according to the approved plan, as each <br /> lot or area is developed. <br /> 14. The City will structure the tree plan review and approval to work within the existing development processing <br /> time frames for subdivisions, planned unit development, and development permit approval. Criteria and <br /> information for approval will be available with all other permit information. <br /> 15. The City will retain heritage trees on street right -of -way, in parks and on other City property except when <br /> otherwise necessary for the public health, safety, or welfare. <br />
