CRI1 i EMO.PCL Page 1 <br /> DRAFT <br /> PUBLIC WORKS POLICY <br /> DATE:January 10, 1991 <br /> REVISED: May 20, 1994 <br /> SUBJECT: POLICY FOR LARGE, HAZARDOUS TREE REMOVAL <br /> GENERAL: <br /> The policy for the removal of large, hazardous trees on maintained City properties (e.g. streets and parks) is <br /> divided into three (3) sections: removal criteria, documentation, and posting. This policy does not apply for <br /> the removal of trees in natural areas under City jurisdiction (see Policy for Tree Maintenance in Natural <br /> Area). <br /> PROCEDURES: <br /> REMOVAL CRITERIA <br /> Trees, twelve (12) inches in D.B.H. or greater, may be removed if they: <br /> 1. are dead or substantially dead. <br /> 2. are showing substantial evidence of heaving out of the ground. <br /> 3. have substantial structural decay of the trunk at or near ground level. <br /> 4. have a major, non - repairable, mechanical failure. <br /> 5. have extensive structural decay within the juncture of the trunk with the crown. <br /> DOCUMENTATION <br /> 1. Record of the tree's inspection report, along with photographs of the signs indicating the lack of structural <br /> integrity shall be kept at Public Works - Maintenance and be available for public inspection. <br /> 2. The record shall be available for public inspection at the time of the tree's posting. <br /> 3. The record shall indicate the criteria used in determining the findings. <br /> POSTING <br />
