1,1 -/3 -1Y <br /> LOCAL <br /> Eugene honors 17 <br /> for planting trees <br /> Seventeen neighborhood <br /> leaders have been honored for <br /> organizing more than 200 <br /> volunteers to plant more than 340 <br /> trees in Eugene neighborhoods and <br /> schools under the city's <br /> NeighborWoods program. <br /> Under the_volunteer program, <br /> residents obtain trees from the city <br /> and plant and care for them in <br /> public rights -of -way. Nearly 800 <br /> trees, a record number, were <br /> planted during the most recent <br /> tree - planting season, said Jan <br /> Staszewski, the city's urban <br /> forester. <br /> In many cases, residents have j <br /> planted one or two trees in front of <br /> their property.
