From: Adrian Stansfield CERMAES - RIS1
To: Dick Morgan CERMRAM - RIS1
cc: Houston Sheppard CERMHTS - RIS1
John Luther CEWMOUL - RIS1
Subject: Removal of potentially controversial trees.
We have four trees at sites that, because of their size, variety (Oregon
Maple) and location (Whittaker Neighborhood), lend themselves to a great
deal of "citizen involvement ", either on the front end or the tail end.
First let me give you my proposal as to what and how we can hopefully curb
some of the emotional input and make it a more prductive process. We would
like to be able to plan the removal so that the trees can be taken down, the
stumps ground and new, large trees of 3" to 4" replanted within a matter of
days. I believe it would be best to get the neighborhood leaders, council
person or someone of signifigance involved on the front end, since it seems
they get involved on the other end anyway. One more item is the variety of
replacement tree. It seems that has become a larger issue in the recent past.
Since we are aiming for larger trees, the variety becomes somewhat limited.
I would like to be able to make the selection unless others are willing to
make the selection and come up with the source as well.
With that, the four sites are:
6th & Madison - One tree
3rd & Madison - One tree
* 208 Madison - One tree
616 W. 4th - One tree
This one is located at Bell Hardware and the owner was denied the approval
for removal when they built a few years ago. Since then they have become
somewhat attached to them. There is one, however, one the South end that
has a large cavity at the base of a large main stem and present a potential
hazard to the business located just to the South of Bell Hardware.
