Medlin, Johnny
From: Staszewski, Jan
To: Andersen, Chris; Norris, Linda (RIS1)
Cc: Etter, John; Hammitt, Bob; Medlin, Johnny
Subject: Illegal Tree Removal at 3220 Whitten Dr.
Date: Thursday, December 30, 1993 12:16PM
Staff received a call this moming from Sandy Bonds of Whitten Drive stating
that trees were being removed from a vacant lot at 3220 Whitten Dr. She said
that PIC did not have a building permit issued for this site.
The Urban Forester went to investigate and found that a logger, Tom Hodges,
was cutting down trees from the site in violation of the tree code. Mr.
Hodges was told to stop cutting any trees, to not do any additional bucking of
the trees, and to not remove trees from the site until further notice.
Mr. Hodges thought that the tree code allowed the removal of 5 trees
from any one site per year. The Urban Forester explained the provisions of
this code and that no trees may be removed on a site without a house or a
building permit for a house on lots less than 20,000 sq.ft.
The property owner, Dorris Damson, through Mr. Hodges submitted an application
for a tree removal permit on September 27, 1993. Shortly after receiving the
permit the Urban Forester called her to inform her that the application was
incomplete. The Urban Forester explained that additional information was
necessary before the permit could be processed. No additional information was
submitted.
The Urban Forester will be taking the information about the violation to the
City Attorney Office to determine the level of the fine. If you have any
questions please call Jan Staszewski at 465 -2815.
Page 1
