The purpose of the trimming, which is undertaken every three to four years, is to allow safe line clearance for your overhead electric lines. For the past four years EWEB has been utilizing more environmentally sensitive tree trimming methods, to protect the tree from harm as much as possible. Essentially these methods train the tree to grow away from power lines, which reduces the need to trim for line clearance in the future. However, even this type of trimming produces a temporary visual effect that is noticeable. EWEB trims trees for line clearance throughout the City of Eugene. Our experience is that trimming the trees on Adams Street causes more public attention that most locations in the City. To better explain our trimming methods and raise awareness of what to expect with the trimming, we would like to invite you to join us for a walking tour of the trees on both sides of Adams Street, from 3rd to 5th Avenue, this coming Wednesday, March 18, at 4:30 pm. We will meet at the intersection of 3rd and Adams. Staff from the City of Eugene will be joining us on the tour. At that time we would like to answer any questions you might have about the trimming we will be conducting on that street, or our tree trimming methods in general. Enclosed you will find information about our tree trimming practices, the Oregon Public Utility Commission Tree Clearance Policy which EWEB follows, a copy of the agreement between EWEB and the City of Eugene pledging cooperation in our respective tree trimming practices, and a booklet that discusses pruning trees near electric utility lines.
