Great job on coming together as a group in exactly the
allotted time!
"Sustainable Public Works services meeting the needs of Eugene's citizens now and in the
future. **
When explaining the vision statement, the Environmental Policy Team's definition of "sustainable" will be used. I got this
from the City's background paper on sustainablity -- not sure if there's a different definition:
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
The Mission and Vision will be placed in each of our major conference rooms in Public Works. It will also become part of
the Work Plan planning process and the Service Profile update process. Each new Service Profile team will create a
vision statement that is about sustainability for that service so it is in line with the Department's vision. This will create
investment by the Budget Committee.
The vision may also be printed on the back of business cards, at the desire of the employee.
Rollout The training I attended on the City's values was a test before it goes out to the departments. It is about decision -
making.using the values. HR has a video with some scenarios and some written scenarios that were used for discussion
purposes, and the plan is to ask all of the departments to come up with some of their own scenarios. I believe the Public
Works mission and vision will fit nicely in this training package, and that we can come up with some scenarios that
illustrate how to use the department's vision in a decision - making situation.
M
