Mark Young earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree <br /> from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, in 1987. He studied in Florence, Italy and Copenhagen <br /> Denmark and interned in Venice, Italy at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. He is a third- generation Chinese American <br /> with a strong interest in the Asian culture of building —spare structural elements that place themselves lightly, yet <br /> strategically, on the land. Mr. Young spent six years in Honolulu, Hawaii, doing cabinetry and architecture and worked on <br /> numerous projects in the Pacific Rim. He began working at WBGS in 1995, where he specializes in wood construction <br /> with an eye to sustainability and environmental sensitivities. He leads the Green Systems Committee, directing sustainable <br /> research and participating in design. On the proposed project, Mr. Young will: (a) participate in owner meetings and <br /> coordination, (b) conduct research on the sustainable systems, (c) be primarily responsible for design refinement <br /> drawings, (d) create the architectural presentation drawings and oversee the model, (e) participate in the Interpretive <br /> Planning process, (f) contribute to federal progress reports, and (g) participate in evaluation. <br /> Landscape Architect (Contracted WGBS Architecture and Planning): Rick Satre is the owner of Satre Associates <br /> and will work collaboratively with WBGS in the design of the Wetlands Education Center. Mr. Satre earned a BLA and <br /> MS in Landscape Architecture at the University of Oregon. He has 23 years experience in landscape design and <br /> implementation and is licensed in both Oregon and Washington. He and the able staff at Satre Associates are planning <br /> professionals who are experienced in every stage of project development. The planning team creatively enhances <br /> communities through an interdisciplinary approach, responding to the natural environment and needs of people. The <br /> landscape architecture team assists their clients in the formulation of ideas that focus on their client's vision, integrating <br /> the built and natural environments, balancing human needs with development and environmental issues. This natural <br /> resources team is committed to understanding laws, regulations, stakeholders and societal attitudes impacting the <br /> successful completion of projects. The firm has an extensive track record working with agencies and jurisdictions, making <br /> environmental, historical and cultural resources available to the public for educational and interpretive interaction. On this <br /> project Mr. Satre and/or his team will: (a) attend project meetings and participate in developing an overall Interpretive <br /> Plan; (b) serve as liaison between Project IEP staff and Satre Associates; (c) participate in refining conceptual design, <br /> design research, and cost estimates; (d) participate in the development of presentation materials; (e) assist in finalizing the <br /> Vision Document; and (f) participate in reporting processes, evaluation and dissemination. <br /> Landscape Architect (Contracted WBGS Architecture and Planning): Sara Geddes is employed as a Landscape <br /> Architect at Satre Associates. She holds a BLA in Landscape Architecture and a BS in Fine Arts from the University of <br /> Oregon. She has over 18 years experience working on urban, suburban and rural sites, located in chaparral, sub - tropical, <br /> coastal and inland valley environments.
