This project would provide an extremely valuable service to our community Anderson P P p J P Y h' and make <br /> Julie Aspinwall- Lamberts good use of existing community resources to create a safer public atmosphere. <br /> Rev. Phil Barnhart HIV Alliance's Sana Needle Exchange Program has been serving Lane County since 1999. <br /> Candice Barr <br /> Dr. Tom Bascom Currently, the program reaches 7,500 of the estimated 10,000 injection drug users living in Lane <br /> Mike Bellotti County. Annually, over 600,000 needles are exchanged and safely disposed of in biohazard <br /> Ruby Brockett <br /> John H. Brown containers. Studies show that needle exchange programs not only prevent the spread of HIV and <br /> Carolyn Chambers Hepatitus C but also act as a bridge to other agencies - by providing referrals to alcohol and drug <br /> Dwight Collins <br /> Jan Eliot treatment, HIV testing, medical and mental health services, food, housing and other basic needs. <br /> Dr. Mats Fish <br /> Nonie Fish <br /> Adriana Giustina The newly formed Harm Reduction Coalition is a group of organizations (including Sacred Heart, <br /> Sister Barbara Haase McKenzie Willamette Lane County Health Lane County Health Alcohol and Drug Hoggard Green ' Y ' Y ' g <br /> Guy Justice Treatment Providers, HIV Alliance, Safe and Sound) working together to promote Harm Reduction <br /> Ernie Kent among substance users as a best practice strategy to improve community health. Two immediate <br /> Dr. Gary LeClair g P gY P t3' <br /> Mayor Sid Leiken goals of this coalition are to stabilize funding for critical needle exchange supplies and establish a <br /> Hue -Ping Lin common model to be used in the ER of both hospitals. Should these two goals be met, the SafeParks <br /> Johan Mehlum <br /> Emet Mehlum proposal approach would provide another point of access for the continuum of services offered by <br /> John O'Connor o ur communit and being developed through the Harm Reduction Coalition. • <br /> Jan Oliver • Y g p $ <br /> Mayor Kitty Piercy <br /> Paul Skillern HIV Alliance intends to coordinate targeted outreach to injection drug users with SafeParks Outreach <br /> Larry Tardie g on ru g <br /> Jim Torrey workers. The SafeParks program will be yet another way for injection drug users in our community <br /> Jenny Utum to become connected with the needle exchange, thereby protecting the health of the entire <br /> community.
