. \v mEk p c .
domestic violence services
June 27, 2005
Re: Safe Parks Neighborhood Network
Greetings
Please accept Womenspace's strong support for Saint Vincent de Paul's First Place
application for the Safe Parks Initiative. This would be a great service for the entire
community — providing a supportive outreach service to homeless people and helping
to create safety for everyone. It is also a much more effective use of resources.
One of the particularly difficult situations in the complex of homeless issues is the
violence these people live with daily — which includes intimate partner violence.
Homeless victims of IPV often feel that the beatings from their partner are safer to
endure than life on the streets without their partner's "protection." Hopefully, a
sensitive outreach service would help to break down the barriers these people face to
finding housing and getting free of the violence.
We look forward to the development of the Safe Parks Initiative, and to a better
understanding the circumstances that create homelessness in our community.
Sincerely yours,
Cheryl O'Neill ,
Executive Director
P.O.
