reused from year to year. Donna Stark suggested continuing the
practice of giving every entrant a participant award. The planning
group formed a coloring contest subcommittee: Linda Eismann, Kay
Kronholm, Donna Stark, and Lynn Bryan.
* It was suggested that we develop kiosks at each main display area,
to serve as "mile markers." We can display coloring contest art on
the kiosks, which would be numbered and displayed on site map.
g. Tours and tour guides will continue to be needed. It was agreed we
need to establish a deadline for groups to sign up for tours. We
also should encourage self - guided tours, and we should upgrade the
site map to make it easier for groups to guide themselves through
PW Day activities.
* An information booth will be set up inside the main gate (in the.
area where in the past the stage was set up). The Info Booth
should include a lost and found, first aid, and radio center.
h. Identifying PW employees was discussed at length. There was some
support for T- shirts (that say, simply, City of Eugene Public Works
Department staff) to be distributed to all PW employees at City
expense. Sandra Gleason will see how Division Managers feel about
this proposal. Another option would be T- shirts purchased by em-
ployees. The drawback is that not all employees will choose to
purchase T- shirts, therefore there wouldn't be any sure way to
identify employees except name tags. Stick -on name tags were rec-
ommended over pinned tags. There also was some support for
sweatshirts. Sue Rhyne will check the price of sweatshirts and
report back to the planning group.
i. Handouts were reviewed. It was decided to use paper sacks rather
than plastic litter bags. The paper sacks could be stamped, possi-
bly as an activity at major event areas. The sacks also could be
colored at the coloring booth. It was agreed that we will not
distibute balloons because of cost concerns. Therefore, there
should be no balloons on site. The group generally supported the
idea of having buttons printed. Sue Rhyne will check on the cost
of buttons. An activity book will continue to be handed out. The
site map will be upgraded and distributed. Pencils seem like a
good idea. Sandra Gleason will check with Division Managers on the
cost of this item.
III. NEXT MEETING
a. The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 11, from 9 -11 a.m. at PWM
(Dick Hubbard will arrange a meeting place). Among the items to be
on the next meeting agenda: a tour of the PWM /PWT facilities; and
a dissuasion on how to build employee involvement in PW Day.
b. It was agreed to set a standing meeting time of Wednesdays from 9
to 11 a.m. for purposes of planning Public Works Day activities.
