Johnny
- -- -- Original Message---- -
From: WOLD Eric N
Sent: Wednesday, July 20, 2005 2:10 PM
To: MEDLIN Johnny R
Cc: MEDARY Sarah J; BLANCHARD Bob C
Subject: Wetlands web site and the portal
Importance: High
Johnny,
At today's POS supervisor's meeting, you requested that people that have suggestions, issues, or concerns about the
current status of the new POS "portal" web site should write you and copy Bob. So, I am going to take you up on your
offer.
I have divided my comments into several categories, as you'll see below. As a very general statement, I believe the
portal wetlands web site, as it currently exists, is a large step "backwards" in terms of its functionality, user -
friendliness, logical display of information, and quantity of content compared to the old wetlands web site
( http: / /cesrv107 /parks /wetlands /index.htm The old web site was used extensively by Wetlands Program staff, as well
as by customers of the mitigation bank, consultants, regulatory agency staff, and many others across the country who
are interested in the regionally- and nationally- recognized West Eugene Wetlands Plan and Partnership. The current
portal site is in a condition where much of the content and usefulness is gone. Therefore, I hope that that significant
attempts are made to address the issues I raise in the remainder of this email.
Category 1: Information from previous site that is missing (or hiding) on portal site
There is a substantial amount of information from the previous site that simply was not put on the portal site, or that is
hiding in illogical, obscure locations, including:
• The entire page http: / /cesrv107 /parks /wetlands /reports.htm and all the PDF reports that are logically
structured on that page are gone or imbedded in strange locations that don't make sense. The portal site
should include a link from the main wetlands page to a page called "Reports" that mimics the page
http: / /cesrv107 /parks /wetlands /reports.htm
All of these reports are included on the Natural Resources page within the right hand column, Related Documents,
West Eugene Wetlands, Annual Reports.
• The entire contents of the West Eugene Wetlands Plan (see http: / /cesrvl07 /parks /wetlands /plan.htm is
gone. The portal site page for the "Plan" needs to include links to all the files that are on
http://cesrvl 07/parks/wetiands/plan.htm .
The Wetlands plan is available in PDF format on the same page noted above.
• The application forms for the mitigation bank page, which were incredibly useful to bank customers on the old
