From: Dave Lane [mailto:daveclanecoe @gmaii.coml
Sent: Friday, August 24, 2012 4;57 PM
To: JOYNER Damon D
Subject: Fwd: RE: FW: Hi..Do You guys do the surface repairs in the alleys downtown?
Damon,
Thanks for all the info and great explanations. The saw cut option seems the most suitable for our needs since
we may not own this lot in a few months..
Once we had a clear shot at soil I'm sure we can take it from there. I've worked with contractors for concrete
cuts in the past so I could go which ever way you prefer - -- call a contractor or turn to you for the cuts.
I don't want to put you out if you really don't have the time, so I'll leave it entirely up to you.
I just really appreciate having your input and knowledge on things like this - things that are new to me.
Let's talk next week.
Thanks again and take care. -Dave
---- - - - - -- Forwarded message ---- - - - - --
From: "JOYNER Damon D" < Damon .D.Joyner(rr,ci.eugene.or..us
Date: Aug 24, 2012 4:28 PM -
Subject: RE: FW: Hi..Do You guys do the surface repairs in the alleys downtown?
To: "Dave Lane" < daveclanecoe@gLnail.com_ >, "LANE Dave C" < Dave.C.Lane ,ci.eugene.or.us
Cc: "MICKELSON Chad S" <Chad. S.Mickelson ci.eu ene.or.us>
Dave,
Sounds good.
Without knowing the depth or integrity of the existing asphalt I would be disinclined to utilize a surface mounted sign
support — although it would be cheaper and quicker. I believe your best choice would be to core (with a large bit 8 -10 ")
and vac out an area for a sleeve, then install the post in the sleeve — so it can be repaired if compromised. The other
way is to cut out a small square, 8 -12 ", vac out for a sleeve or install the sign post and repair the surface. Putting in a
sleeve is some additional work up front, but any subsequent replacement is performed without surface intrusion.
The best approach would likely be determined by anticipated life span. If the sign is never going to get hit or the life is .
limited, cut the asphalt, dig out a hole a couple feet deep, set the post, backfill and cap with cold mix. If the useful life is
anticipated to be years or the likelihood for the post being compromised is high, take the time to put in a sleeve so
repair can be completed without impacting the surface.
We don't have a core drill, so you would need to hire a contractor to cut the hole, at least. If you wanted to cut the
surface and repair, we could saw out a small square. Are you looking for a complete install or a partnership at some
level to accomplish the sign installation? Also, what is the project timeframe?
a
