July 5, 2011

CONTACT:

David Starns, Project Manager, 541-682-8306

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2-PAGE RELEASE

thth
Paving Repairs Under Way on Willamette Street from 29 to 46 Avenues

thth
A project to repair Willamette Street from 29 to 46 avenues is under way. Work on the
$1.5 million project began Tuesday, July 5, and is scheduled to be completed in late September.
More than four lane miles of deteriorated paving in this section of Willamette Street will
be fixed through a combination of reconstruction and resurfacing work. Sustainable practices
include the use of warm-mix asphalt and in-place road recycling techniques.
thnd
Onstreet bike lanes will be added from just south of 29 Avenue to 32 Avenue for
th
southbound cyclists and from Donald Street to 29 Alley for northbound cyclists. The project
also includes repairs to the underground stormwater and wastewater systems, replacement of
nd
sidewalk access ramps and traffic signal improvements at Crest Drive, Donald Street and 32
Avenue.
Wildish Construction is the contractor. The primary source of funding for the project is
the 2008 voter-approved bond measure to fix streets.
The work will cause significant traffic disruptions. One lane on Willamette Street will
remain open for southbound traffic, which may be subject to occasional delays. There will be
detours for northbound traffic. Access to homes and businesses will be provided at all times.
th
In the first phase of construction (Willamette Street from 29 Avenue to Crest Drive),
rd
northbound traffic will be detoured on 33 Avenue to Hilyard Street. In the later phases of
th
construction (Willamette Street from Crest Drive to 46 Avenue) Willamette will be closed to
northbound traffic between Crest Drive and 46th Avenue, and northbound traffic will be detoured
th
onto 46 Avenue to Donald. Drivers heading north from streets on the west side of Willamette
thth
between Crest Drive and 39 Avenue should take Willamette south to 40 Avenue and then to
Donald Street.

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
