I think the bottom line of the conference call was we
should postpone choosing a specific approach until the City had nailed down more of the specifics of its
relationship with WREN. Our office had previously drafted an MOU to define some aspects of that relationship,
but (as far. as I know) the negotiations with WREN were put on hold while WREN figured out more about its
own plans.
My file has nothing in it since March 2007, so I can't comment on what City staff and WREN have worked out
since then about ownership and funding issues. But I'm curious...
Jerry
Jerome Lidz
Harrang Long Gary Rudnick P.C.
(541) 485-0220
jerome.s.lidz@harrang.com
THIS MESSAGE IS A CONFIDENTIAL COMMUNICATION UNDER THE ATTORNEY-CLIENT OR ATTORNEY WORK
PRODUCT PRIVILEGE.
"MEDLIN Johnny R" <Johnny.R.MEDLIN@ci.eugene.or.us> 12/17/2008 8:55 AM
In reality I think the project is still in question. At best I think it
will be on hold for another couple years.
In the current economic climate WREN is having very little success with
fund raising for their "bricks and mortar" building fund. The scaled
back facility that is coming out of the CUP process is not of great
interest to 4J due to its reduction in size and inabilityto permanently
house the Rachel Carson Center.
We have paid for the work to refine the project vision and do the CUP
but we are suspending funding the project once the CUP is in hand until
other project partners are able to provide some matching funds to see at
least phase one constructed. WREN still is focused. on their capital
campaign (rightly so in my mind) and therefore has not yet focused on
developing the capacity to operate the center once it is built.
I think it is still a great concept and I hope it comes together, but I
suspect the impression left by the article in the paper was perhaps a
little over optimistic.
Thanks
Johnny
> From: CUTSOGEORGE Sue L
> Sent:Wednesday, December 17, 2008 7:28 AM
> To:MEDLIN Johnny R; LIDZ Jerome (Harrang)
> Subject:WEWEC
> I read the article in yesterday's paper about the West Eugene Wetlands
> Education Center with interest.
