We just took down the 15' x 25' flag on Skinner Butte and replaced it with the 10'x 19' flag for th.e coming
season. The 15' x 25' flag sustained damage, but we did not realize just how much until we sent it to Rose, City Awning - for repair;..
We were aware of the tattering, but there was also structural damage that Rose City Awning disrovered when the flag was
examined more closely. A representative from Rose City Awning called to report that ten feet of material would be lost from the
end of the flag in order to repair it. The repair would render the flag square in shape (i.e., 15' x 16). Because it would no longer
be appropriate to display that flag atop Skinner Butte, I instructed Rose City to dispose of it as unrepairable. A new 15' x 25' U.S.
flag will cost $629.60. 1 have yet not placed an order. (We will not need the 15'x 25' flag until Memorial Day 2008.) In reviewing
my last note to you below, I see that we have enough money left in the account to purchase the 15' x 25' flag. Would you consider
authorizing the purchase at this time, or would you prefer that we wait until February 2008? The 10' x 19' flag that we just raised
is new and should not need to be replaced until 2009. (That is, it should last two seasons.) However, the 15'x 25' flag was new
and lasted only one season. In any event, I can send you a funding request early next year for flag replacements; that will be
needed in 2009 and 2010 as you requested. In the meantime, please let me know whether we should proceed with the.`
replacement of the 15'x 25' flag. Thank you.
From: Jeff Anderson [mailto:JeffA @ocfl.org]
Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2006 3:39 PM
To: ZUCKER Richard
Subject: RE: Veterans Flag Fund
Hi -
That sounds fine.
I would suggest sending me a full report and request for renewed funding about three months before your next round of replacing
the flags -- perhaps in summer 2008 in preparation for replacing them in the fall. Obviously, if they wear out sooner, you can move
this up.
Jeff
From: ZUCKER Richard [ mailto: RICHARD.ZUCKER @ci.eugene.or.us]
Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2006 3:11 PM
To: Jeff Anderson
Cc: RISDAL Lacey L; FINNEY Kevin P
Subject: RE: Veterans Flag Fund
Thank you for the quick response. I made some inquires and have just learned that there is currently a balance of $1,707 left in
the grant. The flag purchases will total $1,048.70. That will leave us $658.21 in the grant. So, we do have sufficient funds for this
year. I expect that we will have to replace the flags that we are about to buy in another two years. How far in advance would you
need our request for a renewal of the grant?
2/12/2008
