F Calls v Service Area <br />In Oregon, Ambulance Service Areas, or ASAs, are assigned to provider agencies by county <br />government. The ASA for Eugene Fire & EMS is shown above. It includes the city of Eugene <br />plus large outlying areas primarily to the south and west (about halfway to the coast), covering <br />a total of 438 s9uare miles, For purposes of management information, the ASA is divided fiir- <br />therinto zones, which are based on population density and distance from agency resources. <br />The map above shows ambulance responses by Eugene Fire & EMS in each zone of the ASA <br />for Fiscal Year 2007 (7/1/06-6/30/07). The department also responds to all other <br />surrounding jurisdictions under mutual or automatic aid agreements. <br />The map above showsthe locations of full structure fire responses during FY07 in which <br />Eugene Fire & EMS was the sole or a participating responder. The contract districts are shown, <br />as well as responses into Springfield to the east. There were a total of 200 such responses. <br />In addition, however, fire crews responded to 3;333 other non-medical calls in the fiscal year, <br />including smaller fires (vehicle, grass, bark dust, etc.), natural gasleaks, explosions, hazardous <br />materials incidents, water rescues, reports of smoke or suspicious odors; public assistance, po- <br />lice assistance, downed power lines, and many others. <br />36 37 <br />
