_~
-;~ Section 3
Airport catchment area, activity, and use
'~.
Passenger percentage by airport
MIDT booking data was used to determine the originating airport preferences of catchment area air
travelers. Of the survey air travelers, 52.9 percent originated or terminated their trips at Eugene Airport.
The remaining local air traveler population drove to Portland International Airport. From the city of
Eugene, air travelers must drive approximately 127 miles, 2 hours and 17 minutes, to access Portland
International Airport. Lower fares and a higher level of air service offered at the primary competing airport
is the primary cause of diversion of catchment area passengers.
Exhibit 3.4 Passenger percentages by airport
Portland
47.1
Eugene
52.9%
Source: MIDT survey data -calendar year 2004
~ Domestic versus international itineraries
Table 3.6 breaks down the origination patterns of the survey sample by domestic and international
'.~ itineraries.
