'~-a Portland International Airport weekly departures and available seats
,~ Table 3.4 provides a summary of weekly departures by aircraft at Eugene Airport's competing airport,
Portland International Airport. Table 3.5 provides a weekly available seat summary. The information can
`~ be examined for disparities in service between Eugene Airport and Portland International Airport,
~ shedding some light on why travelers may drive to Portland to access air service.
Portland International Airport offered 1,696 departures during the sample week, over eight times as many
departures as Eugene Airport. Alaska Airlines, including Horizon Air, provided 50.5 percent of departures
and operated a variety of narrow body jet and turboprop aircraft. United Airlines and Southwest Airlines
ranked second and third with 17.3 percent and 13.6 percent of total weekly departures, respectively.
United Airlines used both narrow body jet and turboprop aircraft. Southwest Airlines used the Boeing 737
exclusively to serve the market.
Overall, the majority of departures were provided with narrow body jet aircraft. The de Havilland Dash 8
was the most highly used turboprop aircraft in the market. Jet service accounted for 62.3 percent of the
total departures. There were 62 fewer departures compared to the sample week of December 15, 2003,
used in the 2004 Passenger Demand Analysis, a decrease of 3.5 percent
