RIVER ROAD RESIDENTS' VIEWS OF ANNEXATION
EDITORIAL OBSERVATIONS:
Opposition peaks among "most frequent voters." Conversely,
those most likely to "acquiesce" to annexation are non-voter types,
which suggests that incentives to induce them to vote could
redound to the benefit of annexation.
• Although negativism pervades all voter segments, there is support
potential among newer residents and younger voters, many of
whom are ..renters.
• On the other hand, opposition is concentrated among senior citizens
and long-term residents who are resistant to chanee. This,
in turn, warrants consideration of themes which emphasize the
benefits of change in a changing society.
• Attitudes of men and women are essentially similar, both on this
and subsequent voting questions which explore persuasive themes
on lowered taxes, police protection, etc.
PAGE 4
