FACILITIES MAINTENANCE <br />^ GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />The primary goals of Facilities Maintenance are to <br />maximize the useful life of Wastewater Division <br />facilities and equipment and to maintain a safe and <br />aesthetically pleasing environment. These goals <br />are accomplished through effective coordination <br />and planning of facilities and grounds mainte- <br />nance. <br />The section is responsible for scheduled and un- <br />scheduled maintenance of all division facilities <br />and groups, including the regional plant, the Sludge <br />Management Facility, the Cannery Waste Man- <br />agementFacility, and the 41 local and regional lift <br />^ FACILITIES <br />The Facilities Maintenance staffuses several work <br />spaces and storage areas throughout the Wastewa- <br />terDivision facilities. The 800-square-foot shop is <br />used for meetings and for tool, storage, locker, and <br />small equipment storage. The Maintenance Build- <br />ing also houses the supervisor's office and a paint <br />room and lunch room that are shared with the <br />Equipment Maintenance staff. Two outside stor- <br />^ EQUIPMENT <br />The Facility Maintenance staff uses various pieces <br />of heavy and small equipment. Aneight-ton crane <br />truck provides the capacity needed to lift heavy <br />loads, such as grit removal and pump lifting and <br />installation. Two portable six-inch trash pumps - <br />skid- and trailer- mounted -provide enough <br />pumping capacity to handle most temporary pump- <br />ing operations. A 150-kilowatt trailer-mounted <br />emergencygeneratorrneets backup power needs in <br />the event of lift station power outages and is <br />available for other portable power supply need. <br />In January 1990, the Facilities Maintenance sec- <br />tionaccepted responsibility for dredging, hauling, <br />and applying sludge. Equipment used for these <br />stations. The section also provides a variety of <br />support services to Operations, Residuals Manage- <br />ment, and Equipment Maintenance. Support ser- <br />vices include crane service, sludge hauling and <br />application, wet well cleaning, basin and clarifier <br />hosing, excavation and repair of underground sys- <br />tems,generator setup, and operation for providing <br />emergency power to pump stations. <br />The section takes on specialized work, such as <br />protective coating application, herbicide applica- <br />tion,crane operation, confined space entry, trench- <br />ing, and shoring and minor construction. <br />age bays contain small equipment, tools, herbi- <br />cides, fertilizers, and other equipment and sup- <br />plies. <br />A separate Steam Cleaning Building, which also is <br />shared with Equipment Maintenance, has one bay <br />for steam cleaning operations and two bays for <br />equipment and material storage. <br />operations includes a lagoon dredge, five diesel <br />tractors, five liquid tank trailers, and fourdry-box <br />trailers. <br />Othermaintenance equipmentusedbythe section <br />includes aten-yard dump truck, aone-ton flat bed <br />truck, aone-ton crew cab utility truck, and two <br />large mowers. Various hand and power tools also <br />are available and maintained. The facilities sec- <br />tionalso operates two large front-end loaders, two <br />Ford 4-wheel-drive tractors, and two spreaders. <br />Staff frequently rent backhces to excavate at the <br />plant, pump stations, Sludge Management Facil- <br />ity, and Cannery Waste Management Facility. <br />
