Section F: EQuiPI~NT MAINTENANCH
RIVER ROAD~SANTA CLARA PUMP
STATIONS
The pump station crew successfully started up
eight new lift stations in the River Road/Santa
Clara area between 1985 and 1987. The new
stations have microwave telemetry for equipment
status and alarm monitoring.
CANNERY WASTE MANAGEMENT
FACILITY
Staff researched, designed, and wrote specifica-
tions and installed new magnetic flow meters for
the pivot irrigation system at the Cannery Waste
Management Facility.
LIQUID SLUDGE TANK TRAILER
Rebuilding a used tank trailer to haul sludge saved
the plant nearly $50,000. The trailer was pur-
chasedfor $5,000, and staff completely overhauled
and rebuilt it, saving the cost of purchasing a new
trailer.
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
SCHEDULE
The implementation of a preventive maintenance
schedule. for all plant equipment and electrical
switch gears was a substantial project, resulting in
Page 51
a 40 to 50 percent reduction in unscheduled main-
tenance work requests.
SAFETY RECORD
The equipment maintenance work section has
worked more than six consecutive years without a
lost-time job injury. Considering the dangerous
work environment, this is anextxaordinary accom-
plishment.
INFILTRATION~I.NFLOW
MONITORING PROGRAM
Implementingaformal infiltrationandflow-moni-
toringprogram will require dependable flow-moni-
toringequipment. The maintenance staff plans to
check existing meters and repair metering devices
and associated equipment.
MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT
PROGRAM
Future goals include eliminating much of the paper
handling. If the plant is successfill, corrective main-
tenancerequests could be entered at any computer
terminal at the plant and then mailed electroni-
cally. The stored information could be used for a
variety of purposes, such as tracking the parts
inventory, checking the status of work requests,
and generating maintenance reports.
