Key Next Steps <br />1. Review by City Council <br />Based on the recommendation of the <br />Downtown Plan Update Committee, this <br />Concept flan will be forwarded to City <br />Council for discussion and action. <br />2. Incorporation into Downtown <br />Plan Update <br />Based on the action of City Council, this <br />Concept Plan will be folded into an update <br />of the Downtown Plan. Significant <br />additional planning work is anticipated, <br />including the development of a new zone <br />and ~ Great Streets overlay. <br />3. Coordination With City Staff <br />Close coordination with staff from other <br />city departments, particularly Public Works <br />Transportation, Engineering and Parks <br />Planning is required to ensure that the <br />elements of this Concept Plan are <br />integrated into ongoing and planned work <br />programs. <br />A New Federal Courthouse For Eugene <br />Site: <br />4.5 acres at the corner of East Eighth Avenue <br />and Mill -Street, formerly part of the old Agripac <br />cannery. <br />Building tenants:. <br />The 278,400-square-foot building will house <br />four U.S: District courtrooms and two U.S. <br />Bankruptcy courtrooms, chambers for six judges, <br />congressional offices, and space for U.S. marshal, <br />probation and pre-trial services, federal prosecu- <br />tors, court clerks. <br />Building features: <br />Expansive stairway entrance with massive col- <br />umns, awaterfall leading to security entrance, <br />two levels of offices that create a base for three <br />separate, irregularly shaped third-floor pavilions, <br />each holding tv<~o courtrooms. The pavilions will <br />be spaced to reflect the peaks of Three Sisters. <br />Cost and construction: <br />$70.4 million for the building, $1 million for art. <br />Construction starts around March 2003.
