Transportation Placeholder <br />Functional and Safety Improvements <br />Railroad Quiet Zone <br />Project Description: This project studies the safety improvements and changes that could be made to the <br />railroad crossings at Van Buren, Monroe, Madison, Jefferson, Washington, Lawrence, Lincoln, Pearl, High <br />and Hilyard streets to obtain a regulatory Quiet Zone from the Federal Railroad Administration. The Quiet <br />Zone will stop routine crossing train horns, not warning and emergency horns. Potential safety <br />improvements at individual crossings could include 4 quadrant gates, median or channelizing islands, <br />conversion of the street to one way and complete closure of the crossing. To obtain federal Section 130 <br />funding, some crossings must be closed. The project may propose closure of up to four crossings. No <br />other funding is identified at this time. Depending on the alternatives selected the total project cost could <br />range from $800,000 to several million dollars. .. <br />Project Status: Not Started New in FY08-13 CIP.
