CITY COUNCIL GOAL: Sustainability Initiative <br />Develop Sustainability Office and Sustainability Commission that <br />supports broad sustainable practices and create a tool chest of things <br />needed to support businesses that produce sustainable products or <br />provides or utilizes sustainable practices. <br />Contact: Susan Muir, Executive Director, Planning and Development, 682-6077 <br />Connie Bennett, Staff Lead, 682-5363 <br />Reporting period: January -March 2007 <br />At this year's City Council retreat, the council launched a new initiative on sustainability, and <br />approved the following language for the goal: <br />Sustainability Initiative <br />Develop Sustainability O~ice and Sustainability Co'nmission that supports broad sustainable practices and <br />create a tool chest of things needed to support businesses thatproduce sustainable products orprovides or utilises <br />sustainable practices. <br />ACTION TO-DATE <br />The staff team has been assembled and begun work on an action plan to take back to the council on <br />July 9, 2007 (tentative date). Team members are Susan Muir, Jeff Narin, Peter Ruffier, Bill Lemons, <br />Patricia Scarci, Mia Cariaga, Jason Mak, Eric Wold, Catherine Zunno, Terrie Monroe, Glen <br />Svendsen, Lynne Eichner Kelley and Connie Bennett, who is currently acting as the lead on this <br />initiative until the new sustainability manager is hired. <br />Interviews for the sustalnability manager are occurring the first week of May and staff anticipates <br />that the person will start work on June 1. <br />-19- <br />
