FINAL 2008-2011 STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
E-Mail Comments Received:
• Cliff LaMear: Recommends that work toward the Astoria Bypass be included in the Draft
STIP.
CORVALLIS, October 26, 2006
68 attendees
General Comments:
• Seventeen people* turned in comment sheets expressing their support of the proposed Cor-
vallis-Albany Trail, a candidate for the Transportation Enhancement Program. (These com-
ments were passed on to Pat Fisher, Manager of the Transportation Enhancement Program,
as input on which Enhancement proposals would be put into the STIP.) *Those who turned
in comment sheets that included names: Yvonne Hilton, Susan Christie, Joellen Jarvi, Claire
Pate, Ken Pato, Theresa Valentine, Valerie Grigg-Devis, Jerry Rooney, Lynn Evan, Lyn
Cornell, Sandra H., Judy Juntunen, Keith Hastings.
• Roger Nyquist, Chair, Linn County Board of Commissioners, proposed that, instead of the
Transportation Enhancement Program Corvallis-Albany Trail proposal, a bike path along the
river between Corvallis and Albany be built. (This comment was passed on to Pat Fisher,
Manager of the Transportation Enhancement Program, as input on which Enhancement pro-
posals would be put into the STIP.)
• Keith Hastings and Susan Christie turned in comment sheets in support of the proposed 35tH
Street bicycle facility improvements, which is a candidate project in the Transportation En-
hancement Program. (This comment was passed on to Pat Fisher, Manager of the Transpor-
tation Enhancement Program, as input on which Enhancement proposals would be put into
the STIP)
• One person suggested that Oregon is moving toward the same traffic as Los Angeles and
suggested that support be given to use of bio-fuels.
• Robert Leffel: Think about a second bridge over Yaquina Bay. Think now. Build when
ready.
niccncsinns_
• There were many citizens at the meeting who voiced their support of the Corvallis-Albany
Trail proposal in the Transportation Enhancement Program. Reasons cited: currently, there
are safety problems for bicyclists on Hwy 20; the trail would remove cars from US20; rail-
road supports the project; bike commuting would increase; family outings; the project fits in
with the larger vision of enhancing the entire state bicycle network. The US20 section be-
tween Scenic and N Albany Road, for cyclists, is the worst section and should be improved
first.
• Bill Bain, the mayor of Newport, spoke in support of the Transportation Enhancement Pro-
gram proposal in Newport.
• CWACT requests that ODOT provide additional funding for the TDM programs in the Cas-
cades West area: 2008 $192k, 2009 $196k, 2010 $200k, 2011 $204k. (In the Draft STIP, the
proposed contribution to the TDM in this area is a little over $100k per year.)
Page 372
