WORKERS' COMPENSATION CLAIMS <br />The number of claims filed by Central Services employees increased to 13 in FY07 for a total incurred cost of <br />$60,535. Two of the claims incurred 77% of the total cost incurred for the department but the remaining 11 <br />claims were fairly minor claims and the average incurred for those claims was $1,255. Safety & Loss Control staff worked with Facility Management <br />employees on several safety issues including respirator usage/fit testing, safety <br />inspections, and noise level testing. <br />In FY07, Central Services employees reported eight incidents that met the <br />definition of an OSHA reportable injury or illness. Three of the injuries were to <br />custodial employees working in Facility Management. One injury involved a Maintenance <br />employee who suffered strained chest muscles totaling 73 days of OSHA time loss and <br />107 days of restricted work activity. <br />Vehicle Safety <br />As shown in the FY07 City-wide Vehicle Mileage Comparison graph (see page 15), <br />Central Services employees drove 127,339 miles in FY07, up from the 126,467 driven in <br />FY06. There were seven vehicle accidents involving Central Services employees in FY07, <br />up from four in FY06. Six of the seven accidents were classified as at fault. All six at fault <br />accidents involved backing into or sideswiping other vehicles or stationary objects. <br />;~ <br />' ~: <br />- ,r..- _ <br />,.r +• ry <br />'s ~"~, c <br />Oregon OSHA Compliance/Consulting Activity <br />Oregon OSHA Compliance visited Facility Management in FY07 as part of the comprehensive Health & Safety <br />Audit of the Eugene Police Department. The focus was on cleaning products used in cleaning areas at PCU, <br />Forensics, and the Patrol area at City Hall where bloodborne pathogens might exist.
