OR 126W FLORENCE-EUGENE HIGHWAY CONDITIONS REPORT - 2001
Portions of 126W have now reached or have exceeded their original
design life, and increased traffic volumes are creating (or soon will)
difficult operational and safety problems. Average daily traffic tops
20,000 vehicles at the east end. Construction to add capacity at the
east end will be very difficult, economically, environmentally, and
even politically. Overall system deficiencies, regional issues, and local
"hot spots" can have a major impact on the local and regional
economy. These deficiencies can be compounded by local
land use decisions.
For these reasons, it makes sense to monitor the conditions along 126W
and take action to address priority concerns. This will allow the State,
as appropriate, to prevent serious and perhaps much more expensive
_ problems in the future. To do anything less will detract from mobility,
economic prosperity, and quality of life. ODOT's Mission Statement
is consistent and clear: "Provide an efficient, safe transportation
~~~ system that enhances Oregon's competitiveness and livability."
TABLE OF CONTENTS
PREFACE
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
USER'S GUIDE
APPENDICES
0
PAGE
O
December2002 ES-5
VERSION 1.0
