How You Can Get Involved Review of FY07 Budget
k .....~
FY2007 Budget Review Process
The review and approval phase of the budget cycle begins with the publication of the budget
document. On Apri124, 2006, the City Manager will present the Budget Message to the Budget
Committee. Then, during work sessions in May, the Committee will review the budget. There
will be a 30-minute public comment period at the beginning of each work session.
After the initial presentation from the City Manager, Budget Committee members may. ask
questions, request further presentations from staff on particular issues, discuss proposed changes
to the budget, and make proposals for other changes. Through a series of motions, the
Committee will prepare its preliminary recommendation to the City Council by amending the
City Manager's Proposed Budget. Once the Committee has prepared its preliminary
recommendation, it will hold a public hearing. After listening to the public testimony, the
Committee will refine its recommendation and forward it to the City Council. The City Council
will conduct a public hearing and will act to adopt the budget by June 30.
How You Can Get Involved
Citizens are encouraged to express their views on the budget and all meetings of the Budget
Committee and City Council are open to the public. Citizens can provide comment at the
beginning of each Budget Committee work session (up to 3 minutes per speaker). Citizens may
also testify at the Budget Committee public hearing in May and the City Council public hearing
in June. Copies of the Proposed Budget Summary or a compact disc of the Proposed Budget are
available free of charge from the Eugene Library, the City Manager's Office, and the Finance
Office. Copies of the full budget can be purchased from the Finance Office, borrowed from the
library, or reviewed at the locations where the Summary is available. In addition, you can
download or view the Proposed Budget or the Budget Summary from the City's Web site:
http://www.eugene-or.gov/budget
How to Provide Comment or Testify:
1.
